Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 Confirmed For Stadia Launch

4.1
Ubisoft's online shooter The Division 2 is heading to Google Stadia, just in time for the platform's planned November 2019 launch.

The online shooter The Division 2 from Ubisoft will be a part of Google Stadia’s launch line-up, Google confirmed during today. The game was featured in the Stadia Connect stream, with developers speaking to Google’s infrastructure and server support on why the large, Washington D.C.-set online experience would work on the platform.

Don’t expect anything new from that two-minute video from the Connect stream, however. The video consisted of developers reintroducing the game to prospective Stadia customers who might otherwise be unfamiliar with it. In short, The Division 2 takes place seven months after the “Dollar Flu” from the first Division game, and the game’s world features landmarks such as the White House, the Capitol building, and the Washington Monument.

It is only one of several Ubisoft games bound for release for Google Stadia, with the French company looking like it will be the most prominent third-party supporter for the platform. The game that started it all with Project Stream was Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and today’s event also confirmed that Ghost Recon Breakpoint will also feature on the platform.

There’s a bit more to it with the Stadia version of Breakpoint, however, as this version will take advantage of Stream Connect, per the Ubisoft official website. Because the game is running on Google’s many servers, games will be less reliant on peer-to-peer networking, and both online worlds and forms of split-screen play will be easier when every session and instance is running on their own server. As such, Breakpoint gives players the ability to have live feeds from three co-operative teammates on screen.

Whether or not The Division 2 will support that and the nifty Crowd Play feature, which lets streamers open up their game sessions to audience members and viewers, has yet to be seen or mentioned. We’ll likely have to find out in November when Google Stadia launches along with a number of other titles. Check out the two-minute video below.
