God of War Director Clarifies No DLC is Coming for Game’s Anniversary

With Sony celebrating one year since the release of God of War, Cory Barlog tempered expectations and said it will not include new DLC.

Since its release last spring, God of War has continued to leave a lasting impression as one of the best games of the generation, and with the game’s anniversary rapidly approaching, the game’s director has clarified that we shouldn’t get our hopes up for DLC to coincide with it.

God of War director Cory Barlog, in response to fan questions about what’s in store for God of War‘s one-year anniversary later this week, clarified that “just so no one gets the wrong idea – there is no DLC coming for the game.”

Barlog’s statement mainly comes after Sony and developer Santa Monica Studio kicked off a weeklong celebration of God of War‘s anniversary, starting with a thank you video from the studio for fans’ support of the game since its debut last year. The celebration also includes a free dynamic theme based on the game and a set of PS4 user avatars that will be available this coming Wednesday for free.

However, Barlog seems to have wanted to quell any suspicions that any kind of DLC or major expansions to the acclaimed game would be announced, or at least not to get fans’ hopes up too much. Even before this, Barlog has been explicit that there don’t seem to be any plans for DLC for God of War (at least not any time soon), as he previously stated that while Santa Monica Studio explored the idea of doing DLC, but it quickly became too big in scope.

God of War is available now exclusively on PS4.
