YouTuber Skyrim Grandma will be immortalised in the next Elder Scrolls

4.1
Shirley Curry, known in the gaming community as Skyrim Grandma, is going to be an NPC in The Elder Scrolls 6.

Announced in Bethesda’s 25 years of The Elder Scrolls anniversary video, the devs reference the petition to “Immortalize Shirley Curry as an NPC, unique weapon, or location in The Elder Scrolls VI,” that was started up after Curry left a heart-wrenching comment on a YouTube video discussing The Elder Scrolls 6 release date (via Eurogamer).

“Well, I guess that puts the nail in my coffin, literally!!! When Skyrim 6 comes out I’ll be 88!! So I probably won’t get to play it, so i’m going to quite dreaming for it!!!” Curry wrote. The comment was picked up by Reddit, and so the petition was born, and it’s hurtling towards its 50k goal, even after the announcement, with more than 49,200 signatures at the time of writing.

“This means a lot to me, because I would be extremely happy to know that somebody else was playing with my character in a future Elder Scrolls game,” Curry says in the anniversary video.

Shirley shared a photo of herself on Twitter with Bethesda’s Todd Howard during her visit to the studio, as well a wholesome video clip of their chit chat.

Howard called her visit “a huge, huge treat” for everyone at the studio, adding that “everyone was super excited” to see her.

The last player immortalised in an Elder Scrolls game was Oblvion fan, Erik West, who passed away after his battle with cancer before Skyrim’s release. West got to visit Bethesda in May 2011, and the studio paid homage to him by adding Erik the Slayer to the game – a callback to his online name, Immok the Slayer.

Feel free to join me as I continue to quietly sob for the next few minutes.

Bethesda has confirmed that neither The Elder Scrolls 6 or Starfield will be shown this year at E3 2019.
