PlayStation Network Better Following Disastrous Breach

4.5
Sony has pulled the PlayStation Network back from a near disastrous outcome when the online gaming and marketplace hub of the PlayStation 3 was hacked months ago. The security breach which resulted in an unprecedented lapse in service left gamers and consumers scratching their heads, wondering whether their information and time was being spent in a safe place.

Business is getting back to normal for the network. Following the outage, number indicate that 90% of users have returned to the network post-outage, with many redeeming the free gifts that Sony bestowed on consumers following their return. Sony has been concerned about maintaining the relationship that they have cultivated with gamers over the past 16 years, but executives of the company believe that the brand and network are back better than before.
"This is a 16 year-old business, right... So while we’re in the middle of it, sometimes it’s hard to keep bad news in perspective, but hopefully this is a bump in the road. I think our company’s better and stronger than ever. I think our network is prepared to deliver great user experiences and our customers are back and using it and it's working. So all things feel really good." said Phil Rosenberg, an SCEA executive in a recent interview with Industry Gamers.

We’re hoping that they’re going to recognize that this period has been a bump in the road in a really long relationship. The great news is that they are back, though, and our service is up and operating and secure and delivering - doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. And be fairly invisible. When our gamers get online, they’re getting online to game. They’re not thinking about operationally about how it’s happening. They just want to have fun."

This sort of disaster can be magnified when theirs a competing network like Microsoft's Xbox Live just on the other side of the fence for gamer's to explore. But Sony doesn't feel that they lost very many to a competing service, and if they did, they're confident that they can win them back. The executive was humbled by the message that the Sony faithful sent to the company upon the restoration of the service.

If it was just Sony attacked I think they would have gotten a lot more heat. But with all the other attacks people are being more sympathetic and realizing there is no "Perfect defense".
