Fortnite on Mobile Adding Controller Support

4.4
In news that is sure to have Netflix quaking in their boots, Fortnite is about to get a whole lot more compelling to play on smartphones. While the iOS and Android versions of the game have thus far relied on touch screen controls (and done a pretty good job of it, judging by how popular the game seems to be on mobile), now, you shall be able to play even this version of the game with proper physical controls.

The newest patch for the game, version 7.3.0, adds wireless controller support for the mobile versions of Fortnite. On Android, users can expect “most” Bluetooth controller adapters to function with the game, while iOS users have a smaller pool to choose from, with only MFi certified controllers working with Fortnite.

The update has several other changes as well, including a new grenade that freezes enemies, as well as 60Hz on some Android devices. You can check out the patch notes, and we’ve copied some relevant portions for you below as well. Fortnite is out now on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS, and Android.

  • Mobile Controller support
    • Android: most of Bluetooth controller adapters, such as Steelseries Stratus XL, Gamevice, XBox1, Razer Raiju, and Moto Gamepad.
    • iOS: MFi controllers, such as Steelseries Nimbus and Gamevice.
    • Disabled phone vibration if a gamepad attached.
  • 60Hz on select Android models
    • We are rolling out 60Hz support (to be enabled in settings) on select Android devices. We have been working with our partners on optimizations and are rolling this out initially on the following specific models.
    • Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (USA variant)
    • Huawei Honor View 20
    • Huawei Mate 20 X
  • Added audio visualization icons for vehicles and Balloons
