DOOM Celebrates 25 Years with New Video and DOOM Slayers Club

Bethesda and id Software are going all out for DOOM's 25th anniversary referring to the next 12 months as the "Year of DOOM."
Today marks the 25th anniversary of one of gaming’s most popular franchises: DOOM. To celebrate, Bethesda Softworks and id Software have released a new video looking back at the history of the franchise while also looking ahead to the series’ next installment.

The video that Bethesda has released today looks back at all of the many violent moments that DOOM fans are likely familiar with. From the original DOOM’s release back in 1993 to the most recent installment in the franchise, DOOM (2016), this hype trailer shows all kinds of the most gruesome demon kills that we have now seen from this series for nearly three decades. The video also mentions that “DOOM is Eternal” which is clearly meant to coincide with the name of the upcoming entry DOOM Eternal.

In addition, Bethesda has announced the DOOM Slayers Club, a new program that will give you free rewards, events, and other content. If you join this club for yourself, you’ll receive the Zombie DOOM Slayer skin for DOOM Eternal upon release.

Most interesting of all of this news is that Bethesda is calling this upcoming year the “Year of DOOM.” This might just be meant as a way to honor the DOOM franchise as a whole over the next 12 months, but I find it a bit more interesting since DOOM Eternal still doesn’t have a release date or even a window for that matter. Maybe I’m reading too much into this whole “Year of DOOM” thing, but logic would seem to state that DOOM Eternal’s release would seem likely to fall in this upcoming yearlong window since, you know, it’d make sense to release a new entry in the series during this promotional period. Don’t take that as fact by any means, but maybe we’ll finally learn more about DOOM Eternal’s release date soon.

Whenever DOOM Eternal does end up releasing, it’ll be coming to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. You can watch the new 25th-anniversary video below if you’d like.
