Early Estimates Put Modern Warfare 3 Sales Ahead of Battlefield 3

4.6
Industry analyst Doug Creutz has increased his first-year sales prediction for Battlefield 3, saying that preorders so far are "roughly comparable" to last year's hit Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Sales predictions, when you get right down to it, don't mean a whole lot, but the word coming out of Cowen & Co. has to be making EA smile nonetheless. Analyst Doug Creutz has increased his first-year sales estimate for the upcoming Battlefield 3 from a very respectable eight million units to 11 million, noting that BF3 preorders to this point are "roughly comparable" to Activision's 2010 release Call of Duty: Black Ops. That game has sold more than 20 million units worldwide since its release.

Battlefield 3 is EA's best shot at reclaiming the modern combat shooter crown - or at the very least, becoming a legitimate contender once again. The previous game to square off against the Modern Warfare juggernaut, the 2010 Medal of Honor reboot, managed to break five million unit sales, enough to earn a sequel but not to be any real threat to the Call of Duty dominance.

If Creutz is correct, Battlefield 3 could very well succeed where Medal of Honor did not, although the odds of it actually taking home the belt are just about non-existent: BF3 may be running neck-and-neck with Black Ops, but the upcoming Modern Warfare 3 is handily beating them both.

The reason why BF wants more people to see the light is because BF doesnt really get the reconition it should really get. It's an amazing game making it like real warfare by having gravity in it so guns dont have unlimited range. Its realistic by allowing you to destroy walls and destroy trees for better line of sight. The only downside to it is that you cant go to prone and you have to run long distances to get to a m-com station, but I dont mind it at all. To me, BF will more likely keep you alive in war like for instance with sniping. Gravity and wind affect sniper bullets, so it teaches you to aim high and use those black dots on the crosshairs that most COD players think are decorations. Since there are 2 new companies making MW3, im pretty excited myself to see how multiplayer will turn out.

Well no shit, COD has a huge fan base. and battlefield is trying to cut into it. Of course the projections would be in favor of COD series.

Well isn't it obvious? COD has some of the most loyal fans out there(even if they may be small minded and annoying). It broke sales records two years in a row! So there is really no surprise here since the only thing I could see beating it would be another Halo.

Although this doesn't mean that MW3 will be a better game, and it probably won't. Twilight made hundreds of millions of dollars while it was in theaters, but the film itself wasn't very good. The film Fight Club didn't even make a quarter of that while it was in theaters, but was a way better film.

See what I'm getting at?

I'll post again, they are both their own games don't get me wrong the campaign for Call of Duty has always been excellent, the major problem is the degrading multiplayer that has been getting worse over the years with each release. The fact is Call of Duty has attracted the younger generation where as the Battlefield franchise has always been of the more older generation where you cannot simply run and gun in Battlefield ala CoD style.

I have played both games' series since their respective first releases and lets just say so far the BF3 engine seems to outweigh MW3 one for the time being.

To top it all off CoD series started off with the focus on PC gaming then it shifted to consoles - where the player base is larger and ofc full of 'fanboys' Battlefield has always been PC driven, (don't dare to mention Bad Company because that is the side branch of the original series) Admittedly I still play BFBC2 on PC with the upcoming arrival of BF3 I want to get back into the atmosphere of the games again.

The bashing of one vs the other is just a failed concept right now with neither game released.
