Next Xbox Aiming to Launch Before PS5, According to New Report

4.3
Talks of what's next for console gaming continues to be everywhere! From the PlayStation 5, to whatever Microsoft decides to name their next console, the next generation is looming closer and closer. With titles at this year's E3 also being shown for next gen such as Cyberpunk 2077 and The Elder Scrolls VI, it's no wonder that this topic is on everyone's minds. As we patiently await any concrete news, however, one analyst is saying Microsoft is already making moves to beat Sony to the punch.

Though Xbox's Phil Spencer casually mentioned that the next gen is already in the works, it was industry analyst Michael Pachter that is putting more of a timeline of the future of gaming. Pachter recently told GamingBolt, "I'm sure Microsoft intends to launch first, and I am equally certain that the new Xbox will be backwards compatible with any Xbox One X software."

He then added, "I agree that it's hard for Xbox One X purchasers, but they should know 4 years into a cycle that there is another one coming. My guess is that Microsoft intents to launch in 2020, but if they think is going to launch the PS5 then, they will launch early."

The plot thickens! Microsoft's Phil Spencer more than delivered on his promise of a hearty showcase during this year's E3, with more titles than many were expecting and more than a few surprises. He's also committed to expanding back the Xbox brand, bringing more titles and restoring what made this platform so great when it first launched during generation 1.

Though Pachter is correct and that the normal cycle should have been expected, it definitely feels like it was just yesterday that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were announced. We're not ready! But ... at the same time, we are. Both platforms have grown exponentially since launch and we honestly can't wait to see what else the future holds as the bridge between PC and console continues to get smaller and smaller.

What are you hoping to see from the next Xbox and the PlayStation 5? Sound off with your thoughts in the comment section below!

We just got the Xbox One X ffs, can we wait 5 years before another one plz?Why not just improve the One X ?

It's sad. Xbox One X just came out and they already want another console out. Add onto the "X" what more new can they get?

I think it's way too early for either system to be seriously considering a 2020 release... Xbox has a much longer cycle that 4 years as well from 360 to the One. Wait till 2022, it'll be worth it for all, before consoles become like seasonal beer released year round.

Its too early but if one of them launches a console the other one pretty much has to. good ol market

I'd wait and see what ps bring out then just better that model.

What a potentially stupid thing to do. Surely people want the best console, not the one which is out the earliest?

If Microsoft release a new Xbox early it leaves Sony with an opportunity to make changes to their system to make it vastly better. Releasing early would surely compromise the readiness of the system too.

XeCookie_ You're kidding right? I mean this isnt necessarily a bad thing but come on there is literally so much that can just be updated on current gen or mabe not what they have planned for there neow new next gen consoles but why so early its only been 5 years if that.

Xbox 360 was out for 7 years before the One came out. A 2020 launch would give the One a 7 year lifespan as well. It works out, in the time line sense.
I do, however, agree that they can easily just keep new consoles coming out. We don't need a whole new generation, especially when you consider people just stopped making games for the 360.
With the One X out, as well, there is no point in trying to beat the currently most powerful console out. I'd give it another 5 years, or so. Or until the console can maintain a perfect 4K at 60FPS, no matter who is developing the game. No point in releasing another console that does 1080 at a struggling 30FPS...

I dont think we will see a generation change like it was when we moved from ps3 and 360 to the xbox one and ps4... Rather just hardware upgrades as i doubt microsoft would want to go and design a whole new os all over again when theres no need
