PUBG Corp. withdraws from Fortnite lawsuit

3.7
PUBG Corp., developer and publisher of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, is no longer suing Epic Games.

The lawsuit, which PUBG Corp. filed against Epic Games Korea in January over what it said was infringement of its copyright, has now ended.

According to Bloomberg, PUBG Corp. sent a letter of withdrawal to Epic Games on Monday, and the case has since been closed.

Although the law firm representing PUBG Corp. did confirm this, it did not say whether the withdrawal was the result of a settlement or some other reason.

It’s also not clear if this will affect the relationship between the two companies in any way going forward. Epic, after all, provides the technology PUBG is built on (Unreal Engine 4), and is therefore expected to support its customers for as long as their licenses are valid.

It’s worth remembering, however, that Chinese conglomerate Tencent has a stake in both Epic Games, and PUBG Corp. – though that didn’t stop the latter from suing the former.

Separately from that, PUBG Corp.’s lawsuit against Knives Out, and Rules of Survival maker Netease, is still ongoing.

Doubt epic will do anything in regards to hurting them through there in-game engine as that would be a scummy move. But honestly they shouldn't have filed for the lawsuit in the first place.
