Next-Gen Xbox Announcement Isn’t Huge Issue For Xbox One Sales-Analyst

4.6
Among the many announcements that Microsoft made during its E3 2018 presser – besides the acquisition of several studios like Compulsion Games and Ninja Theory – was that a new Xbox was in development. The system is being created by the same team behind the Xbox One X and though it could be years away, the message is clear: Microsoft will eventually have another console generation.

This is an interesting situation for the Xbox One X. The upgraded console isn’t even a year old, having launched in November 2017. Would the announcement of a new Xbox send the wrong message to anyone who already owns the Xbox One or Xbox One X, much less is planning to buy one? GamingBolt posed this question to NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella.

He responded that, “Personally, I don’t think it sends a message at all. I mean, the minute a new gen launches, the clock starts ticking towards a new one. But everyone has the right to perceive these announcements in their own ways. But I don’t think it’s a huge issue, particularly when it comes to sales.”

Granted, if the next Xbox ends up launching in 2020 or somewhere along those lines, what would potential Xbox One consumers gain in waiting? Of course, the onus is also on Microsoft to deliver with its upcoming roster of titles. Hopefully, titles like Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Crackdown 3, Halo Infinite and Gears 5 will do so in the near future.

We just got new consoles. What we need is dedicated servers for these consoles.

Paulpkyou001 Way to early to start thinking about another console and yes exactly the Xbox one x is barely a year old why make a new console

not even way to early the xbox one and ps4 where being worked one 5years after or 6years, the current gen consoles well mainly the xbox one is at/near the end of its life only 5years old/4.5years old so its not too soon

Decy No one really knows where they aim to go with this system. In my opinion tho it may possibly make the Xbox one x a totally pointless console with it also. I would imagine they would begin to work around it with cloud gaming

Cloud gaming is terrible. Playstation already tried and it more or less failed. Not everyone has the internet to play a large quality game that is streamed to your PC.
Even I have 100 down, 20 up and the games I played looked PS2 quality.

XeCookie_ Way to early to be even considering a new gen console. If they release another console we NEED cross platform already!

We have cross platform, but everyone just has to agree. We've had the tech since 360/PS3 times.
As for the timing itself...It actually lines up. The 360/PS3 life span is about the same.

Xbox 360 released in Nov. of 2005. The X1 released in 2013.. That gave it about a 7 year life span.
Currently, the Xbox1 released in 2013. 5 years later, in 2018, they are talking about it. Meaning it is probably another 2-4 years away from prototype or even full commercial announcement. Making the X1 life span anywhere from 7-9 years.

Edit: I am not including the fact that some games are still made for the 360 or even that servers still support online gameplay. Factor those in, and the X1 will last much longer. But tech moves on. The best way to get money..Release a whole new console. A whole new Generation.
