PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' player count is plummeting

4.7
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds played a key role in popularizing the battle royale genre but its popularity has dwindled significantly since the beginning of the year.

According to data from SteamCharts, PUBG’s peak player count reached its highest point ever in January 2018 at 3,236,027 yet over the last 30 days, the best the game has mustered is 1,861,002 players. Similarly, the average player count has dropped from 1,584,886.8 users in January to just 843,218.6 users over the last month.

As of writing, there are 443,462 people currently playing PUBG with a peak of 1,535,178 players on Steam earlier in the day according to Valve’s own stats.

Several factors are likely contributing to PUBG’s declining numbers. For one, the game is no longer a spring chicken as it launched in beta more than a year ago. The ongoing battle against cheaters has also taken its toll on the game and the community and the sudden rise in popularity of Epic’s free-to-play Fortnite Battle Royale certainly hasn’t helped matters.

Even with the drop in players, PUBG is still a crowd-pleaser that remains incredibly popular. It’s still the most popular game on Steam by a large margin (based on peak player count) and is likely still bringing in a decent amount of cash.

Yeah I stopped playing it after the first couple patches, where they borked the performance on the XB1X. Now I try to play it after each update but these improve it a bit but it also arses other stuff up.
( also going from RB6 or RL to PUBG makes it even harder, as these games have a solid frame rate )

It's a pity as the game would be great if the damn farmerate wasn't all over the place. Also why the hell cant I jump to 1080p on the XB1X version? I don't use a 4K tv so it's of no use to me other than supersampling.

LebronIs6 Good. Maybe it'll spark some change in how they are handling this god forsaken game

There are few games that run worse than pubg on the xbox and xbox one x. I like the game but damn does it feel like its been forgotten about as far as fixing lag and fps

Maybe it could be because everyone was playing the experimental server testing the new map out these last few months. When the new map comes out i bet it will go back up a little. If this isn't the case, im still not surprised. I love PUBG, but every game will die off someday. Still at 1.8 million players, thats a pretty high peak. I like Fortnite just as much as i love PUBG and that game will end up dropping numbers eventually. I think PUBG and Fortnite are going to be around for along time before they completely fall off.

They are just getting outdone by fortnite and with the genre getting a lot more popular people are making better versions of battle royal. Plus with the hacking that is getting a lot more popular i am not surprised its dropping on popularity. Also the game has never been optimized for people with bad Pc's so they lose out on a huge proportion of players. Its like ark when it comes to optimization.
