Rumor: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will not have a campaign mode

Polygon has reported that sources have told them that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will not have a traditional single player campaign mode, rather Treyarch is focusing on MP and Zombies for this year’s game, set to launch on Friday, October 12.

From Polygon:

The sources, who asked for anonymity, said that as Black Ops 4’s release date approached, it became evident that development on the single-player campaign wouldn’t be completed. One source said Treyarch has since focused Black Ops 4’s development on expanding multiplayer and the series’ popular Zombies mode. The source described an emphasis on cooperative modes as a potential stand-in for the typical single-player campaign experience.

Polygon reached out to Activision, and Activision stated, “We don’t comment on rumor and speculation. We look forward to revealing Black Ops 4 on May 17th.”

This would be the first Call of Duty game in history to not have a campaign mode. Every Call of Duty game since Call of Duty’s start in 2003 has had a story line.

Activision is expected to reveal the details on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 at a reveal event on May 17.

So the MW2 "remaster" is rumored to not feature multiplayer.. and now BO4 isn't going to be having campaign? Wow..

TheTechGang I've heard that the new campaign mode will be a battle royale on multiplayer, which will require internet connection to play. I think this is a great idea if it turns out to be true and will definitely revive the game and increase amount of players.

In my opinion cod needs this to stay one of the tops game and become the same repitive stuff year after year.


Alot of games need it to stay relevant which is sad. As long as they put their own twist on the mode it'll be good

That's unfortunate, if true. The campaigns are a large reason I bought the games. While I didn't spend the most time on them, but I did play them multiple times each. Oh well. We will see if I will get it or not.

I haven't played a cod campaign since mw2. This means absolutely nothing to me, hopefully it helps keep the file size down even with a BR mode...

Black Ops III Campaign was utter shit, so i can see why this is a rumour. But I want one. Last few have been good.
