Square Enyx and Konami have both announced the immediate closure of the servers for final fantasy XI, final fantasy XIV and metal gear online for at least one week, this is in order to save power so it can be used by more important things.

Square Enix has revealed that the servers for the MMOs have been shut down to conserve power following last week's earthquake in Japan.

"Due to the continuous earthquakes occurring in the eastern regions of Japan since March 10, 2011, the power companies in Japan have encouraged everyone to co-operate by conserving as much energy as possible as it is feared there will not be enough power supply," read a statement.

"Based on the current situation, we have decided to shut down the game servers temporarily, and therefore to suspend services of Final Fantasy XIV, Final Fantasy XI and PlayOnline temporarily."

As a result, players will not be charged for any PlayOnline service throughout the April billing cycle.

Konami has also announced that Metal Gear Online's servers have been shut down to conserve power.

What needs to be done, needs to be done.

Maybe they can move the servers into another country?
