Cities: Skylines - Xbox One Edition to get user-created mods for free

Cities: Skylines, Paradox Interactive's popular city builder game, shed its PC exclusivity and arrived for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 last year. While consoles players had to miss out on the extensive amount of user-created mods that are available to PC version owners, the game's product manager Sandra Neudinger revealed today on Xbox Wire that mods will, in fact, soon be available on the Microsoft console.

The implementation is different from how Bethesda introduced console mods. Instead of users being free to create and distribute mods that are within reason so anyone can download them, mods in Cities: Skylines will be curated and tested for bugs by Paradox before being available to Xbox One players.

The mods seem to be from popular creators on Steam Workshop such as Quad and Gula, bringing service buildings, parks, and even a giant hamster statue for citizens to admire.



The very first selection of mods will be arriving for the Xbox One edition with a free update tomorrow, February 20. "This is our first venture into mods for any Xbox title, and it’s something we’ve been waiting to try for a while now," added Neudinger. "We’re very eager to hear what you think of these initial mods, and if it seems like we’re on the right track, please let us know — we’d love to see about keeping this content growing."

From the two consoles that the game is available on, the new functionality seems to be exclusive to the Xbox One. it's unclear if Paradox plans to introduce mods to the PlayStation 4 version of Cities: Skylines in the future, as now, it is the only platform that the game is available on without modding support.

Mikey Mods for free sounds awesome, I for one will try this game out at some point. Knowing there are free mods I have no excuses.


The mods make this game on PC. Without them the game would be almost boring.

Don't even play this game, the mods do look cool af though.


Without them, it would be extremely boring. Some of the mods are made better than the base game lmao.

Personally, im hoping for some natural disasters if its possible. Would be amazing to have your city destructed by a tornado or a tsunami.


That would be cool, I am looking forward to like a futuristic mod to turn all building and extras into futuristic looking objects that would be so cool. Or a past kind of thing make it look like old times.. I would love that!

Hopefully they have a section in the game for user mods rather than having to import them by yourself.
