Nintendo Switch Clears Three Million Units Sold In Japan

4.4
Within its first nine months of release, the Nintendo Switch is making all kinds of sales records. It’s already managed to sell ten million units, and looks to clear the Wii U’s lifetime sales (12 million) in just a matter of weeks at this point.

And adding to that, the system just had a tremendous week in Japan – perhaps its biggest to date.

Media Create has reported that the Nintendo Switch has managed to clear three million units sold in Japan since its release, with over 269,000 units sold this week alone.

That’s quite a feat, especially considering that, for a few months there, the Nintendo Switch had a troublesome shortage going on in Japan – something Nintendo has clearly been ramping up on this holiday season.

The sales number is a nice boost over last week’s Switch sales, in which over 221,000 units found their way into the hands of happy consumers. We’re likely to see this trend continue in the weeks ahead, especially as Nintendo ramps up with new game releases for 2018.

As far as which games are performing the highest in Japan, Splatoon 2 is the clear champion, with over 1.6 million copies sold. Close behind with nearly 1.3 million units is Super Mario Odyssey, followed by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (1.05 million units) and the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (over 738,000 units).
