More than 1 million played Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode at launch

Fortnite‘s new free game mode titled Battle Royale has enjoyed a strong start.

According to developer Epic Games, more than 1 million players jumped into the free mode when it officially went live on September 26th.

The mode, which is similar to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, sees 100 players dropped into an area that will continue to shrink due to a closing storm. However, unlike Bluehole Studio’s game, Fortnite‘s version includes the game’s building and destruction mechanics, allowing players to build bridges, walls, forts, and more.

In case you missed the drama last week, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Bluehole is not happy with Fortnite‘s new game mode due to similarities and Epic name-dropping Battlegrounds in the mode’s announcement trailer.

Fortnite‘s Battle Royale mode is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC and does not require a Founder’s Pack to access.
