Xbox chief Phil Spencer joins Microsoft's Senior Leadership Team

Phil Spencer has just received a promotion to Executive Vice President of Xbox, and a seat on the Senior Leadership Team. First noted by Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley, the promotion suggests that Microsoft may be taking its Xbox and gaming incentives more seriously moving forward.

Now that Phil Spencer has moved up to an EVP position, Microsoft has a total of 16 members in the Senior Leadership team— including CEO Satya Nadella, Terry Myerson, Brad Smith, and others. Spencer will continue to be responsible for Microsoft’s gaming incentives across all of its platforms, such as Xbox HoloLens, and Windows. He is well known by Xbox fans and was previously the head of Microsoft Studios before he was promoted to Executive Vice President of Gaming at Microsoft.

The change in position is effective immediately was shared with employees today by Satya Nadella. Along with this, he also shared the news that the Enterprise Mobility and Security (EMS) team is moving from the Cloud and Enterprise unit to Windows and Devices. The new team is being renamed to “Enterprise Mobility and Managment” and members will report to Corporate Vice President Brad Anderson and Windows and Devices chief Terry Myerson.

Great to hear. He has done a great deal for Xbox & Microsoft since joining well deserved promotion in my opinion :)

I would've assumed he was already apart of this team considering the huge roles he has played for xbox in the past but either way, good to hear.
