PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds’ insane success, explained in one chart

4
It’s pretty clear that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is smashing all of the gaming records this year. It knocked League of Legends down from the top spot on Twitch in August, topped Dota 2‘s player count on Steam, and has sold well over 10 million copies.

Sometimes, though, it takes a visual to put it all in context.

Steam Spy put together a chart showing how well various games have performed on Steam over the past two years or so. The chart shows how many players on Steam are playing a certain game at once, and it shows the general trend of how games usually go: big releases like Grand Theft Auto V and Fallout 4 have huge spikes of players at release that slowly dwindle over time.

PUBG, however, starts small but just keeps growing and growing—attracting a huge swath of Steam’s players and outperforming both GTA V and Fallout 4 at their peaks.

Cool to see in this sort of format rather than just numbers.

This game will continue to grow and grow, especially since its coming to Xbox.
