EA won’t make Skate 4, so these guys are doing it for them

4.1
The rabid anticipation for the release of Skate 4 is no secret amongst the gaming community, and while publisher EA continues to drag its feet on that front, another studio may meet the demand from a different direction.

Meet Session, a skating game that’s been in development at the Montreal-based studio creā-ture Studios for a few years now. We recently stumbled across footage of the game and were blown away by the level of quality it’s already achieved as a part time project. Formerly known as Project: Session, the game recently a round of funding from the Canada Media Fund earlier this year, allowing the creators to focus on development full-time.

As a result, work on Session appears to be ramping up in a big way. Last week, creā-ture put out two new screenshots, one of which you can see at the top of the post. Here’s the other:

The game has clearly come a long way from this early gameplay teaser, released all the way back in 2015:

Creā-ture Studios founder Marc-andré Houde explained his intentions for the project in an interview with N3rdabl3 in March of 2016, as linked in the Reddit post.

“Something we want to do is that we’re not aiming directly at making a game itself, we have a philosophy that Project: Session is a toy, something you launch and skate with friends, you do some skate games, or film with your friends, or something like this. This is something that’s going to be a big part of the game, it’ll be mostly online so you can play with friends and they’ll be able to film your tricks with an on-control design for the filmer mode.”

If you’re interested in learning more, Reddit user n_body compiled a helpful FAQ about the game approximately a year ago, answering some of fans’ burning questions about the game, based on developer comments and sources. The game has yet to garner much significant hype, likely due to its lengthy development cycle, but the Reddit post offers two clips of the game’s development progress. Other potential questions fielded by the FAQ include what platforms the game is releasing on, what the controls will be like (hint: Skate fans will probably love them), why it’s taking so long to develop, and more.

Session was originally set to be released in 2016, but that obviously did not happen. The team’s current release plan is to get a trial version out in 2017, with the full game expected no earlier than 2018. Assuming the game stays on its current development path, comparisons to the Skate series are certainly not without merit.

Well that's one way to show the devs how stupid they are. I like their style ngl.

i can't wait for this! i need a new skating game in my life. been in a drought too long.
the only thing i got a doubt on is the concept of filming reel only view? hopefully you can control from different angle aspect or from the back view of the skater like skate

I've been following this for a while I am glad it is finally getting some recognition. Hopefully it gets a beta or early access soon. Been dying to play a good skating game for PC.

Classic EA not listening to fans... Skate 4 would be a huge hit, nice to see someone else stepping up and giving it a go though.

I wish EA would make Skate 4 as that was probably one of my favourite series! I seen this project session trailer way back when it came out in 2015 and actually forgot about it until now! Hopefully whenever it comes out it feels and plays well because if the controls aren't smooth then the game it self just takes a hard hit.
