With pre-orders of the Nintendo Classic Mini: Super Nintendo Entertainment System (familiarly called SNES Classic Edition) already come and mostly gone in Europe, North American customers have been baffled by the lack of any real information from Nintendo about their own region, especially after Walmart opened pre-orders suddenly on a saturday night, only to cancel them all afterwards.

Today Nintendo finally spoke up, posting a notice on Facebook. The American arm of the company cites appreciation for the “incredible anticipation” for the nostalgic mini-console, and confirms that pre-orders will be made available at various retailers “late this month.”

We also learn that a “significant amount” of additional systems will be shipped to retailers on launch day, meaning that even those who don’t manage to grab a pre-order will still have a chance. On top of that, more will keep being shipped “throughout the balance of the calendar year.”

No specific explanation was provided on the reason why pre-order in North America are being made available with such a delay compared to Europe, but at least now we know when they’re coming.

Of couse, we’ll keep updating our handy guide when new pre-order listings are made available, so you can go and press F5 over and over for a week or so. Such is the hunger.
