According to a financial report recently released by publisher Electronic Arts, Battlefield 1 has surpassed 21 million players “as of quarter end.” The fiscal quarter in question began April 1st and ran until June 30th, meaning the shooter gained approximately two million players in those short three months (via PC Gamer).
“[This] was an outstanding quarter, with thriving player communities in our top franchises like Battlefield, our EA Sports portfolio, Star Wars, and The Sims continuing to grow our network and drive our digital business,” CEO Andrew Wilson said in the report. “We have built strong momentum, and now we are accelerating into a year of tremendous innovation, where extraordinary new games, content-rich live services, and expanding global competitions will deliver more fun for our players and fuel growth for Electronic Arts.”
In an earlier earnings report by EA, Wilson revealed that major DLC content would be shown off for Battlefield 1 at the upcoming Gamescom 2017, including maps and modes. While this reveal likely involves content included in the In the Name of the Tsar expansion, Wilson’s lack of specificity leaves the reveal open to content coming further down the line.
Battlefield 1 is clearly resonating with players, based on these newly published numbers, but for any series fan that wasn’t particularly taken by DICE’s latest WWI shooter, the next installment in the Battlefield series was recently confirmed for a 2018 launch.
