Destiny 2: New Weapon Perks Revealed

4.5
As was the case with the first game, Destiny 2 is sure to have a fair share of weapon perks over which players will judge the fate of a new weapon that has dropped into their inventory. Looking over a vast collection of weapons from Destiny 2 that have been shown off so far, there are some old favorites making a return, but there are plenty of perks that fans have never experienced on a weapon in the game before.

Destiny 2‘s weapons will feature a new setup that includes mods and shaders. While it’s still not clear exactly how mods will affect the weapons, one theory is that they could potentially allow a player to add their own additional desired perk to the gun. That may allow for some customization and randomization to the loot of Destiny 2, especially considering news that the guns in the game will have fixed rolls.

So what can players look forward to in regards to weapon perks in Destiny 2? There will be a return of old favorites like Explosive Rounds, Snapshot, Full Auto, and Crowd Control, but here is a list of new perks, the names of some have yet to be identified:

Adaptive: Well-rounded, reliable and sturdy.
Veist Rapid Fire: Full Auto. Faster reload on empty.
Increased movement speed while aiming.
Rapid-Fire: Deep ammo reserves. Fast reload when empty.
High Impact: Long range, slow firing, and high damage.
Precision: Recoil pattern is more vertical.
(Editor’s note: on a rocket launcher) Hakke Precision: Fires small auto-tracking missiles.
Aggressive: High damage, high recoil.
Magazine is dropped on reload, wasting bullets but greatly increasing reload speed.
Improved Accuracy and Range on the opening shot of attack.

There are also slightly new takes on some Destiny 1 perks, like Hot Swap; but the Destiny 2 version looks to grant the perk—which grants a short peroid of increased Stability and Accuracy—on initial trigger pull instead of a timer after switching weapons, which is how it functions in Destiny 1. Other perks like Cocoon, which was only available on the raid weapons from King’s Fall, looks to be a general perk now. Cocoon in particular automatically reloads a weapon after being put away for a short period of time.

As always, the exotics feature a set, synergistic combination of perks. Bungie has shown off three so far: Riskrunner, Sunshot, and Sweet Business.

Riskrunner exotic sub-machine gun
Arc Conductor: Taking Arc damage increases weapon power.
When Arc Conductor is active, shots fired have the chance to become chain lightning and return ammo.

Sunshot exotic hand cannon
Sunburn: Explosive rounds. Highlights targets.
Targets killed with Sunshot explode in Solar energy.

Sweet Business exotic auto rifle
Payday: Large mag. Increased Hip Fire Accuracy.
Holding down the trigger boosts this weapon’s range and rate of fire, and automatically loads ammo pickups into the magazine.
