Battlegrounds Hits New Concurrent Players Record; Tops GTAV

4.3
Since its debut on Steam Early Access back in March, the survival shooter PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has lit up Steam both commercially and in terms of playtime, with the title having eclipsed a new record in terms of its player count.

Developer Brendan Greene (aka “PlayerUnknown”) revealed via Twitter that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has reached a new all-time high for its concurrent player count on Steam, with the title reaching 382,561 players concurrently this month.

The new milestone not only breaks the previous cap for Battlegrounds (which was reported last week at around 239,167 players and besting Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for a brief moment), but also puts the record as the fourth highest all-time peak in concurrent players across all of Steam. The new record puts the title above Grand Theft Auto V when it debuted on PC back in April 2015.

While it still sits below three other titles for the all-time record – Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and Fallout 4 – the record still speaks to the massive popularity that PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has enjoyed over the past few months, and will (hopefully) grow leading into the game’s (eventual) full release.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now through Steam Early Access, while an Xbox One version of the title is also in development.
