Halo 5 will be getting an upgrade for Xbox One X

4.3
One more Xbox One title has been added to the list of games getting the Xbox One X enhancement treatment.

343 Industries recently announced that Halo 5: Guardians will be updated to support true 4K on the Xbox One X.

While the announcement states that we can expect a 4K Halo 5 to premiere sometime later this year, 343 Industries did not specify a date, though we can assume it will be sometime around the Xbox One X’s official launch on November 7th.

No other details were given about the update in regards how Halo 5 will achieve the benchmarks set by Xbox for 4K enhancements. 343 Industries famously shifted Halo 5‘s resolution from 1080p to 900p to keep the game chugging at a steady 60fps, so it will be interesting to see how 343 Industries scales up to 4K from an already-lower resolution while still trying to maintain that silky-smooth frame-rate.

Another first-party shooter, Gears of War 4, is also getting the Xbox One X 4K treatment. Originally a 1080p title, Gears of War 4K (not the official title) will run the campaign and Horde modes at 30fps, while its multiplayer will run at 60fps. It will be interesting to see if Halo 5 follows a similar pattern.

This announcement accompanied another big Halo announcement, in that every Halo Xbox 360 first-person shooter title will now be backward compatible on Xbox One.
