One of the more annoying aspects of the Nintendo Switch, besides the fact that it’s currently near-impossible to find one, is that you can’t transfer save data between different consoles.

However, recently leaked documents from the Switch’s dev kit, back when it was still known as the NX, may hint that Nintendo plans to right this wrong in the future.

According to a post on NeoGAF, that not only does Nintendo “plan to provide a feature to transfer account save data among multiple consoles,” but it also wants to implement a feature called Guest Login, which would allow users to “access existing network service account information without linking to a user account within the application.”

In other words, you could potentially access online Switch data (like a customized Twintelle) on a friend’s Switch by logging into your account through the game itself without having to put your Nintendo account on the console.

The dev kit documents clearly state that Nintendo did not plan on including these features at launch but instead want to implement them at a later date, though obviously plans to introduce this feature in an update have yet to be announced.

This would definitely bring Nintendo’s new console up to speed when it comes to data transfer and then some. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 both implemented save transfer at launch, but in both cases you have to sign your account into multiple consoles. Nintendo’s Guest Login feature, if implemented, would put Nintendo ahead of the pack in terms of data transfer.

Then again, neither of those consoles are as mobile as the Switch, so maybe Nintendo just figured you could bring your console to your friend’s house and link them if you both wanted to play off your own accounts.
