Microsoft Defends Xbox One X’s $499 Pricepoint
However, Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra, Xbox’s corporate vice president, feels that if Microsoft were to deliver a proper premium console with the kind of specs and capabilities that the Xbox One X boasts of, they couldn’t have possibly done so at a lower price. “This is designed for the premium gamer that wants the absolute best experience,” Ybarra said in an interview with Polygon. “And so compromising any of those then makes that message much harder to communicate to them. We showed them the smallest Xbox we’ve ever created, the most power, the best price per performance you can get anywhere, in this box. That’s what we’re delivering. I think if you start taking away some of those items, people will say, ‘Well, what were your goals?’ And that’s an area that we don’t want that confusion to exist.”
“[At $399], we wouldn’t have been able to usher in 4K to the living room, and that was a design pillar for this box,” Ybarra continued. “There’s lots of goals in the program, from compatibility to everything. But one, let’s really usher in true 4K where developers don’t have to think about, ‘Wow, how do we stretch this and make it really work?’ We needed to deliver that to consumers. They asked us for uncompromised true 4K in the living room. And so we leveraged a lot of PC technology, from the cooling, the power management system that’s in this, to get it this small — while managing acoustics. That was the goal.”

EarnMaj Seen as tho this is marketed as more of a 'higher tier' console the 499 pricepoint isn't too bad. However personally I wouldn't spend that on a console. You could use that money to buy a beefy PC ;)
I feel the same way, It's an alright price for a console that has 4K but PCs are so much better and you could get a decent one for the same price.
U know many websites have tried to build a pc with the same capabilities as the X....it always comes out more than 500$

So amazing, I read an article posted on here that they aren't really making much money off this console at all due to how pricey the components that go in them so it's awesome to see them finally do something like that, it's exactly what I would've done then proceed to make god tier games.

Ok let's be honest, the smallest xbox, it's 0.5 cm smaller compared to the One S. So, yes it's technically smaller, let's not go and make it sound like we made this thing so small you won't believe it. One other thing. I'm a Huge Xbox fan, have been for a LONG time and I wouldn't mind paying the $499 at lunch IF it had something so amazing to launch with. Ok you'll have Forza 7, but that's releasing before Nov 7th and you'll have a day one patch to upgrade he graphics. You'll have Crackdown 3....so yeah you know I still REALLY haven't see any game play yet and that really worries me. They showed VERY little at E3 this year of the game play. Then there is the for kids game, Super Luck's Tail..really for a lunch of a new amazing 4K console? Just really unsure right now....I might even wait to see if they package a game with it like Forza or something...but for now, surprisingly, I'm going to wait.
Cod:ww2 destiny 2 assassins creed all releasing before Xbox X and all will be upgradable to true 4K what are you complaining about?

Everyone thought this was going to be over $500. People even though $800. It's lower and they still complain. $500 for a console that's 4k, beefy and you'll have for years? That's not a lot of money.
Think differently. Imagine using this console for 500 hours. That's just $1 an hour of enjoyment. Pretty legit right? I'm sure people will put onwards of thousands and thousands of hours into this console. The money you're paying for the time/period you'll have it for, you're not paying a lot at all in the long run.

I don't understand what's the big deal about the price, wasn't the original Xbox One also priced at $499 at release?
