There’s one big reason you can’t pre-order the Xbox One X yet

4.3
Despite getting a big, splashy reveal during Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference, you still can’t pre-order the new Xbox One X, formerly known as Project Scorpio, at any retailers. In fact, you can’t even pre-order it from Microsoft’s own store, and the placeholder listing there reveals one very important reason why.

According to a notice on the page, the Xbox One X “has not been approved by the Federal Communications Commission. It is not for sale until FCC approval has been obtained.” That means selling pre-orders at this time would seemingly be illegal, so looking around for alternate retailers won’t do you any good. Several stores do have forms where you can sign up to be notified once pre-orders do go live.

So when, exactly, will that be? Since we’re relying on FCC approval, there’s no good way to know when the console will be cleared for sale. At the moment, Microsoft is only promising “later this year,” according to a report from Game Rant citing IGN’s live E3 coverage. That’s vague enough to be concerning. Will we have to wait months, rather than days or weeks, to reserve an Xbox One X? That’d be a real bummer, especially considering all the momentum Microsoft generated with its strong press conference showing.

At the very least, you can (probably) expect to see pre-orders go live at some point before the Xbox One X’s planned release on November 7th, 2017. The system, which is capable of running games in native 4K, will also see support for a number of already-launched games, both first- and third-party, in the form of free updates that enhance the graphics and resolution.

Should of done had this taken care of so people could just pre order right when they revealed it at E3. Either way it's still going to sell a lot!

Skates Imagine if the FCC denied approval lmao, that would be a shit storm.

Microsoft is a large enough company that has been through FCC approval multiple times so i'm sure they have internal procedures that they follow to guarantee that they will get approved. More than likely has yet to be submitted to prevent leaks.

Kind of bummed you can't pre-order yet. Hopefully the FCC approves soon!

Would be quite funny tbh. They go through all this effort revealing it to just end up geting denied.

Famous That kinda funny on why they can't. I can wait though but this will be my first console I get on day one and I can't wait :)

Now that I'm thinking about it I never got a console on release date either

Not that big of a deal for me yet as I'm saving up still but bummer for the pre orders, would love to get it out of the way now if I had the money. Hopefully they don't lose too much traction on player base.
