PS4 Pro price drop to combat Xbox Scorpio, says analyst

3.9
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has said that Sony will lower the cost of PS4 Pro at E3 in response to a competitively priced Xbox Scorpio.

Microsoft will be coming out all guns blazing next week in Los Angeles, with the format holder fully unveiling its updated Xbox hardware following its official announcement last summer. While the console is currently slated to appear in holiday 2017, it isn’t yet known how much the Xbox Scorpio will cost; something which Pachter says will determine whether or not Sony will have to move to combat regarding PS4 Pro.

“PS4 Pro’s price will drop if Xbox Scorpio is $399. If Scorpio is more expensive, [then Sony have] no reason to cut the Pro’s price,” Pachter told GamingBolt. PS4 Pro is currently priced at $399, so it’s not surprising that Sony would want to cut costs should Microsoft end up matching it in price.

Sony recently said that one in every five PS4s sold since November are PS4 Pros, although hasn’t confirmed just how many units of its high-end platform have been sold since launch. The PS4 family of systems (PS4, PS4 Slim, and PS4 Pro) have shipped 60 million units worldwide as of March 31, 2017. In addition, the hardware giant has revealed that it has sold over one million PlayStation VR headset since the device released in October last year.

The PS4 launched in the U.S. and Europe in November 2013, and quickly gained the upper hand over its lead rival, the Xbox One. While it isn’t yet known just how many units separate each console, Sony claimed this week that the PS4 is outselling Microsoft’s latest console by three to one in Europe.

For a lot of people, the final factor could possibly be down to the dollars. If they do want to stay in the game it's a smart move.

Yeah they need to drop this price down to at least $300 i was so impressed with Microsoft with the price of the xbox one x of only $399 :o

Uzi It seems obvious that Sony is trying their utter best to keep up with Microsoft, but I'm certain that the Scorpio as a console with offer so much more, and will certainly blow the PS4 Pro out of the water. We will just have to wait and see what both of the manufactures have in store.

Give it a few months if that and sony is going to pretty much copy the scorpio in terms of specs in some way and release another console.

Wouldn't be surprised if they do, they need to keep up if the Scorpio is gonna be $400.

Scorpio looks interesting but I'm having a hard time trying to see how they'll deliver those specs at a good consumer price point

Scorpio still going to blow you out of the water, especially if it's as cheap as $399.

Why would it even matter lol PS4 Pro can't even match the power of the Scorpio either way

PS4 Pro is going to be completely overshadowed by the Scorpio release, unless they are aiming for the really poor then I can see how that might somehow get them selling more than Scorpio.
