Next Battlefield 1 expansion will add female soldiers

4.3
Battlefield 1 will be adding female soldiers in their upcoming In the Name of the Tsar expansion, according to an official image used to promote the DLC’s upcoming appearance at EA Play 2017.

The inclusion of female soldiers has been an issue for Battlefield 1 since before the game was released. Back in June, DICE caught flack from one of its former programmers for using “realism” as a reason why female soldiers were not going to be included in multiplayer, along with the costs of additional character modeling and voice-over work. After some prying, it was revealed that DICE just didn’t think its “core audience of boys” would find female soldiers in World War I “believable.”

As it turns out, female soldiers did serve for Russia in WWI, although the reasons that the military allowed them to fight were less “girl power” and more “let’s make men who aren’t fighting feel guilty and less masculine by hiring women to fight instead.” Still, they did see front-line combat once before the war ended during the Kerensky Offensive, which could be a hint about one of the featured battles in the upcoming DLC.

It’s unclear yet whether female soldiers will be playable for all armies or just for the Russian DLC, but with EA Play starting June 10th, we won’t have to wait too long to find out more about In the Name of the Tsar. In the meantime, Battlefield 1’s PC community has another opportunity to play on the new upcoming standalone map Prise de Tahure in the CTE.

I don't think women should be in the next expansion unless they fought for that particular side. For the above example, the Russians did put women on the fronline. The game is realistic and should stick to that value
