Nintendo discontinues its NES Classic Edition console

4.2
If you’ve been holding out on grabbing Nintendo’s NES Classic Edition, hopefully you’ll be able to find one soon, because the mini-console as well as the NES Classic Controller are being discontinued.

Nintendo confirmed the news today to IGN, stating the last shipments of the NES: Classic Edition in North America would be shipped to retailers throughout the rest of the month.

Here’s the statement in full handed to IGN:

“Throughout April, NOA territories will receive the last shipments of Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition systems for this year. We encourage anyone interested in obtaining this system to check with retail outlets regarding availability.

“We understand that it has been difficult for many consumers to find a system, and for that we apologize. We have paid close attention to consumer feedback, and we greatly appreciate the incredible level of consumer interest and support for this product.”

A representative for the company told the site the mini-console was never “intended to be an ongoing, long-term product.” Extra shipments were only added to the original plan in order to meet demand. It was rather obvious to consumers stock would dry up eventually, which is why it became so very hard to find – unless folks were willing to pay $ridiculous on ebay.

Information on whether or not the system would also be discontinued in Europe was not available as of press time. However, it’s would be best if you were wanting one, to try and find a retailer which has some in stock quick sticks.
