PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds update prevents file changes

4.5
Bluehole has put a stop to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players altering the game’s files to remove certain parts of the terrain.

The game’s latest update prevents players from making changes to the game’s ini files in order to remove trees and grass from the game, which was offering an advantage to players who chose to do this.

As well as this, the game’s FOV can no longer be altered via the game settings file. However, the developer promised that an in-game FOV slider will be added in a future update. 21:9 monitor users are probably pretty sad at reading that last part, but don’t get down just yet, because Bluehole has also added support for non-standard aspect ratios.

Read the full patch notes below:

Config Changes

  • Fixed configuration files (ini) so that it cannot be used to hide trees, grass, etc.
  • Prevented adjusting the FOV by changing the game settings file (ini).
  • FOV will be adjustable from the settings menu in-game in a future update.

Sound

  • Fixed an issue with door sounds playing at low volume
  • Adjusted volume of wind, rain, and footsteps
  • Improved the sounds for the buggy
  • When in rainy weather, you will now sporadically hear thunder sounds

Bug Fixes

  • Added more support for non-standard aspect ratios. The game will now display at the correct FOV on aspect ratios ranging from 4:3 to 21:9. Multi-monitor environments such as Eyefinity are not recommended at this time.
  • Fixed an issue with the compass direction not displaying correctly

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on PC via Steam Early Access, and will be coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in the future.

Seems a pretty good update

This should stop some pretty popular bugs in the game as well as slowing down scriptors from modding the game.
