Destiny 2 gets first teaser trailer, gameplay reveal dated

That didn’t take long at all. Hot on the heels of the official announcement, Bungie has released the first teaser trailer for Destiny 2, along with a date for the game’s full reveal.

The trailer, which doesn’t feature any gameplay whatsoever, centers Cayde-6, the Exo Hunter Vanguard from the first game voiced by Nathan Fillion, recounts a story of his exploits over a drink. Only, as we soon learn, Cayde’s not drinking at a quiet bar but the flaming ruins of one in the middle of a huge battle, seemingly taking place in the Last City against the Cabal.

Alongside the teaser, Bungie also tweeted out when we can expect a second “worldwide reveal” trailer, which almost certainly means one with real gameplay and details about what fans can expect from Destiny 2. That first look (or second, or third, or fourth look, depending on how you’re counting and whether or not you include the numerous leaks), will arrive on Thursday, March 30th, at 10 a.m. PT.

The lighthearted, humorous tone of the teaser is markedly different from the fairly serious approach of the original Destiny, though later content updates and expansions did inject a bit of levity into the proceedings, especially through the use of Cayde. It’s not clear yet whether Bungie wants this new, jokier personality to be foundational to the sequel, but it would certainly be a welcome shift.

Destiny 2 is expected to launch this fall, with a rumored September release date. The game is definitely hitting PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though recent leaks and some official statements have indicated a PC release is in the cards, as well.
