Project Scorpio Needs Great First-Party Games at Launch, Says Xbox Boss

4.6
Microsoft is committed to getting Project Scorpio out to the masses by the end of the year. It's a deadline that Xbox boss Phil Spencer is reportedly committed to, so Microsoft very likely has its hands full at the moment making sure that everything is shaping up for the holiday season. Not only will Microsoft have to finish crafting "the most powerful console in the world" by that time and offer it at a compelling price point, it will also have to show up with some incredible games if it wants the holiday season to be a success.

Phil Spencer has been outspokenly transparent about the need for stronger first-party support, something the Xbox One has seen very little of recently. In a recent volley of Twitter posts (via gamesindustry.biz), Spencer has hinted that there are some big plans for the Scorpio launch as far as first-party software is concerned.

"[We're] very focused on 1P games. I'll be careful about when we announce things but I know strong 1P is critical," he said. "It's a journey. Started w/ focus on hardware, longest timelines. We've rebuilt XBL and OS. Bringing same focus to 1P.

"I was encouraged by trip to Japan. More work to do but I'm committed to working with Japanese publishers. Japanese publishers who build games that they believe have a WW audience want Xbox success. FFXV an example. Yes, visit to Japan confirmed for me we'd be seeing these coming (JRPGs), and yes I know I've said this before."

Sounds like we're in for a very interesting E3, don't you think? Microsoft will be putting it all on the table, knowing very well that many consumers and industry professionals will be expecting the polished sales pitch at this year's expo. According to Spencer, we can expect to see more of those incredible games they've got in the oven. "I want to give our games more time on stage at E3, I sometimes feel like we rush telling the story of our games at E3," he said.

I've never understood 'Some people can't afford a PC' I've made loads of PC's that exceed the performance of a console at the same or a lower price.

-urge- I think Day 1 buys are the dumbest. They are the worst models, and you are the guinea pig. Wouldn't recommend getting this, plus you could just get a pc. I don't see a valid argument for this against a pc.

Not everyone can afford a PC.... Console works out cheaper and is just as good. we also prefur consoles, there's many reasons I've no need to argue but I understand your point of view and agree, but hey I'll evntually purchase day 1 or not, will get this console as I've always loved consoles, can't afford to build a PC actually I can but why should I when it's much easier to do it all on console xD

Xbox just needs to start getting more companies to produce more xbox exclusive games since they are not doing good enough with the ones they have. Look at horizon zero dawn, god of war, bloodbourne, Killzone.... These are all great games that are ps4 exclusive.

Crackdown 3 best be a launch title or I will have no interest in a day 1 buy.
