Nintendo Switch could be out of stock all year, GameStop warns

4.7
If you see a Switch on the shelf, you’d better grab it—according to new predictions from GameStop, the Nintendo Switch will be in short supply for the rest of the year.

“The demand is incredibly strong,” GameStop COO Tony Bartel said during a recent earnings call. He added that “as soon as we get it into our stores it’s out without hours,” and said that he anticipates GameStop is “going to be chasing supply this entire year.”

On Nintendo’s end, the company has doubled production of the console, with the new goal of shipping 16 million units before March 2018.

“There’s tremendous demand for this,” Bartel said. “And we just don’t know how high it is because eery time we get it out in our stores it’s literally gone.”

Many of these sales are doubtless driven by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which GameStop noted has almost a “1:1 attach” rate. In other words, almost everyone who buys a console also buys Breath of the Wild.

The Nintendo Switch reportedly sold 1.5 million units in its first week. More recent numbers haven’t yet been released.

I managed to get a switch from my local Gamestop this past week. They were only getting 5 consoles and they were all gone within 3 minutes of arriving and they said their next shipment of consoles wasn't going to be coming until possibly next month.

I still won't be getting one lol

People are asking up to $650 I've seen these locally to me. 1 year seems a little much. Plus didn't just say they were doubling production?

Lmao this is just a marketing ploy for them to try and push as many sales and pre-orders as possible.
