Report: Nintendo Switch sold 1.5 million units in just one week

4.6
he Nintendo Switch is off to a strong start, with 1.5 million units sold worldwide in the console’s first week, according to a new report.

The numbers come from industry tracking group SuperData (via GamesIndustry.biz), which reports that 500,000 of these consoles were sold in United States. And, to be clear, those numbers just reflect the number of units bought by consumers, not by retailers—meaning that Nintendo’s actually sold even more.

Since the company had the goal of selling 2 million Switch units by the end of March, it seems that the hybrid portable-handheld console is exceeding Nintendo’s expectations.

Driving the sales, of course, is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. SuperData reports that a whopping 89 percent of Switch owners also own the new game, making it a definite system seller.

At the moment, many customers are having trouble finding the Switch due to limited stock. We’ll have to see how sales—and how many more units make it onto retailer shelves—continue through the rest of the month.
