Xbox One download speeds improved in new update

4.6
Microsoft have been so good with persistent updates for the Xbox One that at this point, I am struggling to think of any fundamental, big name features that are left to add to the system. So what do they do with future updates? Why, they improve everything that they do have down, of course.

Take this newest update, for instance. Among other things, it enables faster downloads on the system, by up to 40% faster than they were before if you have an internet connection 100Mbps or slower, and a staggering 80% faster if your internet connection is faster than 100Mbps.

Downloads in general have been sped up with the new update, which also works on fixing some of the other things in the background, including the wireless connectivity of the controller (which has always been a sore point of contention among many on the Xbox One).

You can check out the full details of the firmware update for yourself below.

Xbox One update: OS version: 10.0.14393.2152 (rs1_xbox_rel_1610 161208-1218) fre

Performance and general improvements

Download performance

We’ve made several optimizations to game and app downloads on Xbox One:

  • Customers with high-speed connections (greater than 100Mbps) should experience up to 80% faster download speeds.
  • Customers with connections less than 100Mbps should experience more consistent performance that is up to 40% faster than before.
  • Additional optimizations have also made background downloads more resilient to intermittent connectivity issues.

Download speeds will be influenced by network contention within the home and at the ISP level. Download speeds will also be impacted when games are running on the console as system resources are prioritized for gameplay over background downloads. For more information, visit Troubleshoot slow game or app downloads on Xbox One.

Wireless controller

  • Firmware update to improve performance.

Background Music

  • General performance improvements for added reliability and consistent experiences across streaming music apps.

Miscellaneous

  • General stability and performance improvements.

This is great news for Xbox One players, especially with the new modern warfare remastered update that's just been released.

dah I like the sound of this, not bad of a update to be honest. Good job Microsoft.

Oh really? Really is it? Lol jk man, for real it sounds great. I've been disappointed with the consoles handling of internet speeds. Xbox One has always done it much better.

Good it gets tiring to watch my download speed go 2.5 Mb/s 8Mb/s 5Mb/s 20Mb/s hopefully this update fixes that kind of fluctuation.
