Sony: PS4 Pro Support Should Require Only 1% Additional Work for Devs

4.2
PS4 Pro is coming soon, with a release date of November 10th, and more information is trickling down the grapevine from Sony Interactive Entertainment. System Architect Mark Cerny talked about the new console with the Japanese website AV Watch.

Cerny mentioned that the goal is to have PS4 Pro support requiring no more than 1% of additional work in man-hours compared to the entire development of a game.

Incidentally, Cerny also explained that an increase in performance did not require a massive increase in the console’s size. The PS4 pro is, in fact, only 19% bigger than the CUH-1200 PS4 released last year.

Last, but not least, he mentioned that his personal estimate is that rendering at native 4K across the board would require a minimum of 8 teraFLOPS of computing power, and that’s not something that can be achieved at a reasonable price this year. That said, users will be able to discern the difference between games on PS4 and the improved versions on PS4 pro at a glance.
