So I've settled for an M2 Max MBP and now im just trying to find a good configuration.

I'm taking a course on Machine Learning this semester and have always been interested in getting in on the subject.

Ive done some searching on the internet and have found the general consensus is that the more RAM you have the better for ML.

That has lead me to wanting to spec my MBP to 64gb or even the 96gb apple offers. Now I'm not sure what kind of work load will be done for this course and I cant imagine our models, if we develop them int this course, would need that amount of memory. But seeing as this is a field I want to enter I would want to "future" proof it a bit and buy it once now and not need to buy again in the future when/if I would need too.

Any advice is appreciated!

dont know, but this is what I found on the internet
If you are using a memory intensive algorithm, you will need more RAM. In general, however, 4GB of RAM should be enough for most machine learning tasks. If your data set is very large or very complex, you may need 8GB or more.

Buy the cheapest base model with 16 GB and Pro CPU. If you need more resources, use a public cloud VM or build a server at home. A spot instance with 1 TB of memory costs about a dollar per hour on Google Cloud. Turn off and/or resize the VM when you're not using it.
