I've been inching to play an open world space game for a while now, and
decided I'd try Star Citizen by Robert Space Industries. I plopped down
$45 USD for an "Aurora MR Starter Pack", and downloaded what was to be
my new virtual obsession...

After the install, I got comfortable, and started the game... Error message.
Some cheat-stop software was not found... Hmpf. Shut down the game,
restarted my 'puter... Meh... RE-started Star Citizen, to find I had to wait for
another update. Ok. I use MSFS, and I'm used to updates! Come back
a little later and...... YES! Game has launched! Another download? Ok.

So I decide on a character.... and a planet to start on, and low and behold
I wake up on bed in a room. I was somewhat prepared for this. There's no
story line, or plot, or tutorial just me and the 'verse!

First thing to do is go get that virtual space ship I paid real money for and check it out!

Seems I was in a hotel room of sorts... One I couldn't get back into, so now I'm
a homeless guy on a new to me planet with no clue as to where my $45 spaceship
is.

At this point, I'll say the game runs on this system:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor
64 GB DDR4 3200 RAM
AMD RX 6950 XT

And it runs exceptionally well, save for some graphics glitching here and there.

My directionless meandering finally landed me where I could collect my Space Dingy
and head to the stars! (Only 2 hours later)

Open the terminal.... and... my ship isn't there.... try a second terminal... it doesn't
work... (Is this a Genius Bar? j/k) How do I save? I can't. I need a ship, or hotel room,
and I can't access either.

Close the game.... Restart the computer... Start the Game... Back in the hotel room.
At least my created character is still there. By now I'm pretty good at getting around
this city, so I hop the train, head to hanger... Still no ship. Close the game.

Start a ticket... Support was VERY quick to respond with, "We are working out the bugs
of the latest update, and are aware of this issue. Your ship should be back in the system
in 48 to 72 hours." The also gave me 'work arounds', such as hire a ship to get me to another
planet, where you MIGHT be able to access your ship. To do this, I'd need to start doling out
Space bucks for a ride, when I'm supposed to already have one.

Support for Star Citizen is very good, and the team issued my refund the next day.
So I can't fault customer support AT ALL. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around
the latest update making the game worse... for some anyway.

Will I go back? Maybe when it's no longer "in development". My self-abusive nature
will likely draw me back, someday.

Open world space game with no ship that's been paid for: 2 stars
(The planet I was on was beautifully rendered, and that's worth something!)

I get that.... So it is just a clever excuse to hide its flaws then...

This had made me even more leery about 'alpha' and 'beta' games.
It seems some developers 'hide' behind this.

Isn't that the game where it's holds the world record for money spent on it for transactions? I've never even watched a trailer but I strangely remember it from watch mojo or some where on YouTube,
