I've been a fan of RE since 1999, and have loved the survival horror genre ever since, so I've played many horror games. All of them have various degrees of atmosphere and scares, however, so some entertain me well, while others ended up being massively disappointing. But over the years, I think RE has been a huge mess.

This basically came about I believe, all due to RE4 turning the series into action. Now, I don't think RE4 is garbage, but it never really felt like a RE game to me. Not in the least. I'm also not fond of the idea that an infected vendor can just show up, and you trade with him. Horror games are meant to be about being alone, and finding stuff by yourself. Also, when RE8 was released, I feel like Capcom lied and said it was more action oriented due to RE7 being too scary or something, which I think is BS they made up. Because to me, RE8 is pretty much almost identical to RE4, which kind of gained a reputation as a game that is not that terrifying. So I think this is their way of hyping fans up for the upcoming remake of RE4, which I don't care much for, since they derailed RE3.

But I just don't like how monsters you kill can drop ammo. This makes zero sense, as villagers would not be carrying bullets. So to provide a sense of "realism "into the game, could they not just make it that soldiers or cops have bullets? You know?

But, yeah. I've noticed that Capcom copies other games, and keeps going back to Raccoon City, like 835219 times. In my opinion, I'm not convinced that's really helping to take the franchise forward. Although in general, I'm not overly keen on some of the newer takes on the series, such as RE8. Some of the antagonists in that game are off the chart silly. Like, that guy who is like a mecha-thing, and the living doll, which I think was perhaps inspired from rejected ideas included in RE 3.5 or whatever. But that doesn't really feel like RE material to me. I'm also not a huge fan of Ethan Winters, as you don't see his face. Also, the way they redesigned Chris and made him into this headstrong screw-up, I don't enjoy much either. His showing up feels kind of forced in for the fan appeal as well. I'm not sure that Ethan alone is enough to get anybody invested in future mainline RE titles, so I think Chris is just a veteran hero they use to warrant the purchase.

They keep talking shite-out-of-their-bums about Umbrella supposedly being back, but are they even going to go anywhere with that storyline? It's like holding a carrot in front of a donkey. It's merely obvious bait that they use to keep fans engrossed over nothing.
