You should be mining Ethereum if your graphics card has more than 4GB VRAM.

Profitability is extremely high and it won't last forever. Your power is not too expensive, it doesn't damage your hardware, it produces little heat, and you can use your PC while you mine.

Check your profitability: whattomine.com

Easy mode

nicehash.com

NiceHash is easy and takes a large chunk of your profit. Keep reading to make more money.

Get an Ethereum wallet

Transfer Eth as little as possible. A fee is paid to facilitate transactions and "gas" prices are high. It's best to mine to where you want your Eth to be. Too little gas and your transaction may not be completed for days.

Check gas prices at etherscan.io/gastracker#historicaldata

Choose a pool

Can't mine blocks by yourself. Pools split the work and pay you for completing shares. Enter your wallet address once you've started mining for stats.

  • Flexpool - flexpool.io - Fee can be set to 0% if mining to some wallets like Metamask, 0.5% fee and 0.05 Eth min payout threshold. You pay the payout gas.
  • Ethermine - ethermine.org - 1% fee, 0.1 Eth min payout threshold or 0.01 every two weeks. Payouts subsidized by other miners.

Use Ethermine only if you will take low payouts under 0.1 Eth.

Choose a miner

Use the ethash algorithm to mine Ethereum on your graphics card.

Set it up

Read the miner docs to set up the batch file that launches the miner.

t-rex.exe -a ethash -o stratum+ssl://eth-us-east.flexpool.io:5555 -u YOUR_WALLET -w 1

Overclock

It's generally best to reduce core clock, reduce power limit, and increase memory clock for Ethereum.

Install MSI Afterburner: guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afte...nload.html

Easy settings: github.com/nicehash/excavator/tre...e_oc_cards

For more cards

PCIE risers: parallelminer.com/product/ithoo-u...-24-cable/

These are the ones you want.

Used 750w Platinum HP server PSUs are the best deal: ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&...mp;_sop=15

Cheap server power supply bundles with cables: parallelminer.com/product/hp-1200...ining-psu/

Buy the Parallel Miner bundle with 16 cables. It's the cheapest way to get good PCIE power cables.

You need to be at ~50% load. For more wattage on 110v, use multiple server PSUs with chain sync breakout boards.

Triple PCIE power splitter: parallelminer.com/product/18awg-p...pin-cable/

Run only one cable for most cards. Cheaper than three more cables.

PSU module: parallelminer.com/product/160watt...er-supply/

Eliminates need for regular PC power supply.

No need for cases or special racks. Use a wire shelf like this with cardboard under the motherboard.

Mining operating systems:

hiveos.farm
minerstat.com
raveos.com

One free worker each.

Mine RTM on your CPU
Raptoreum (RTM) CPU mining is now highly profitable for most AMD Zen and some Intel CPUs.

Estimate hashrate and profit: mineraptoreum.com

CPU miner software: github.com/WyvernTKC/cpuminer-gr-avx2/releases
RTM pool: flockpool.com
Exchange: tradeogre.com

    0. Register an account at an exchange that has RTM deposits or create a wallet.

    1. Download the latest release of cpuminer-gr and extract the archive.

    2. Open the config.json file in Notepad.

    3. Change the "url" line to "stratum+tcp://us.flockpool.com:4444".

    4. Change the "user" line to your RTM wallet. Enter a worker name after the period.

    5. Change the "threads" line to the number of threads of your CPU. Save the file.

    6. Right-click cpuminer.bat and run as administrator. The miner must always run as admin.

    7. Wait while the miner tunes. A tune_config file will be created once complete.

Mine XMR on your CPU
CPU Mining

Can be worthwhile on newer CPUs. Check your CPU's RandomX performance: xmrig.com/benchmark cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/xmr

Get a Monero (XMR) wallet

getmonero.org/downloads/

I like the GUI wallet. Save your password and backup the files.

Pool

Monero Ocean pays more than normal pools by mining coins other than XMR.

moneroocean.stream - Enter your wallet address

Miner

Use MoneroOcean's XMRig fork: github.com/MoneroOcean/xmrig/releases

Set it up

Find "pools" in config.json and edit these values:

"url": "gulf.moneroocean.stream:20128",
"user": "[YOUR WALLET ADDRESS]",
"rig-id": "0",
"tls": true,

Right-click xmrig.exe, click Properties, select the Compatibility tab, and check Run this program as an administrator". Reboot after first run.

Always been wary of damaging my hardware when mining.

Currently running a 3080, worth a try?

I tried it for a while with a 3080, it just wasn't profitable enough (at least short term). If you invested in it left it in there the price of ETH might shoot up.

3080 profit is currently about $13 a day for about $0.50 of electricity.

But surely it damages or at least puts a hell of a lot of strain on hardware right?

Not really. The hardware will be old before wear from mining or overclocking has any effect. Just don't push your memory too hard.
