Hey guys,

So I was waiting for a 3070 restock to start building my rig and I finally managed to get a MSI 3070 Gaming X Trio, thing is, since it's my first time building a pc I'm kinda overwhelmed with so much information on parts and stuff and I would appreciate some tips. I would really enjoy sticking to MSI so I could use a single software to configure things and RGB related stuff. Here are the expected parts:

GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Gaming X Trio;

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900x (If available, a 3900xt which seems to be better and the cost is almost the same here);

CPU Cooler: MSI MAG CoreLiquid 360R AIO;

Motherboard: Having an hard time with this one since it's the only part I can't really understand what makes one better than the other, but I had an eye on either MPG B550 Gaming Edge Wifi or MPG X570 Gaming Edge Wifi. I also saw the MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi if those 2 aren't really that good (highly accept recommendations);

RAM: Similar mobo situation except I know about the latency and MHz, but since the different mobos have different MHz supports I'm unsure on what to do. And i don't really understand the RAM XMP. I would go for a 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz CL16 either Corsair or G.SKILL;

HDD: SeaGate Barracuda 4TB;

SSD M.2: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 500GB;

Power Supply: Corsair RM850 (it's the same cost as RM750 or RM650 and they're out of stock either way);

Case: MSI Gungnir 100RGB.

This is what it should look like: [Minimum post requirement for links]

Overall I think everything is compatible since i'm using Pc Part Picker, at least it tells me so, but I really need help on the mobo/ram stuff. I would like opinions on any other thing that could be done better.

Thank you very much!

If the 3900XT isn't much more than the 3900X and you don't mind spending the extra, then yeah it could be worth it. If the 5900X is like 100 euros more expensive though, if you can manage that it would definitely be worth it IMO.

Honestly, there's probably a few AIO's I would get before I'd buy this, but I'd probably just recommend a nice air cooler instead. Air cooler is less hassle, just as good at cooling(depending on specific cooler) and doesn't have to be replaced after like 2-5 years.

Do not buy either of those X570 motherboards, they are terrible quality. I'm not sure about the B550 board, I think it is fine but honestly with a Ryzen 9 CPU, I'd definitely aim to pair it with an X570 motherboard.

I definitely would not recommend this case. Doesn't look like a good case at all. Phanteks P400A is a decent go-to, but if you don't like the P400A then there are plenty of other good options, all better than that MSI case.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor (468.90 @ Globaldata)
CPU Cooler: MSI MAG CORE LIQUID 360R 78.73 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler (144.35 @ PC Componentes)
Motherboard: MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard (218.45 @ PC Componentes)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (169.90 @ PCDIGA)
Storage: Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive (99.90 @ PCDIGA)
Storage: Seagate IronWolf Pro 4 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (129.90 @ PCDIGA)
Video Card: MSI GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB GAMING X TRIO Video Card (Purchased For 589.00)
Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower Case (89.90 @ PCDIGA)
Power Supply: SeaSonic FOCUS 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (101.65 @ PC Componentes)
Total: 2011.95

Included your MSI cooler, but like I said, I would honestly just save yourself some money and get a nice air cooler.

X570 Tomahawk is actually a good mobo, unlike the Gaming Edge and Carbon.

7200RPM HDD instead of 5400RPM and 1TB SSD instead of 500GB. Although I'd probably just try to spend the extra 40 euros for this SSD;

If you got a nice air cooler instead of AIO, you'd easily be able to save enough for the SSD upgrade.

32GB RAM instead of 16GB since a Ryzen 9 set-up should really have 32GB IMO. If you want 16GB though, then this is the kit I'd be getting;

I've used TridentZ RGB and Vengeance RGB Pro, the Corsair stuff is nicer than G.Skill for RGB RAM IMO.

I will definitely keep that 5900X in mind.

I chose that one because it goes well with the look of the build. It's not that much expensive compared to other 360mm AIOs and it's not as bulky as the NOCTUA ones for example.

Do not buy either of those X570 motherboards, they are terrible quality. I'm not sure about the B550 board, I think it is fine but honestly with a Ryzen 9 CPU, I'd definitely aim to pair it with an X570 motherboard.

I'm now pretty sure that I won't buy, everyone seems to hate on those and I saw some reviews and stuff and I was kinda unsure about them, people have been telling me to pick X570 Tomahawk over those 2 and after watching some reviews I'm pretty sold.

I definitely would not recommend this case. Doesn't look like a good case at all. Phanteks P400A is a decent go-to, but if you don't like the P400A then there are plenty of other good options, all better than that MSI case.

Well once again, I manly chose this case for the looks and besides it may not be the best but after watching some reviews it doesn't seem to be that bad so I will probably stick to it x)

X570 Tomahawk is actually a good mobo, unlike the Gaming Edge and Carbon.

There it is! I am now sold to X570 Tomahawk ahaha

32GB RAM instead of 16GB since a Ryzen 9 set-up should really have 32GB IMO. If you want 16GB though, then this is the kit I'd be getting;

Now that's going to be hard since I'll possibly try the upgrade for the 5900X. Are they hard to get like the current RTX 3000 series? Since it's stock is kinda meh around here.

1TB SSD instead of 500GB

Are M.2 really that much of an upgrade compared to normal SSDs? Since the price difference is quite high... Is it more worth to get 1TB SSD at the same or lower price than a 500GB M.2?

Thank you so much for the help and I will definitely consider everything you said. Since it's my first build I'm really excited studying stuff to get it right and the way I like x)
