Instead of a complex gaming system, why not start w/ a Christmas present for a buddy who's never been online....ever. Literally lives in a log cabin in northern Michigan (LP), has access to cable internet. He likes to wrench on his Jeeps, wants access to video instruction and parts ordering.

Thanks and stay safe everyone.

What is your budget and currency?

$500 American dollars

What will you use the PC for?

Web surfing and email.

Do you need a monitor? If not, what monitor(s) will you be using?

Yes, about 21.5" will work for the intended space.

Do you need a keyboard, mouse, or other peripherals?

Need mouse and keyboard please. Wired preferred due to limited access to batteries for intended user.

Do you need an operating system?

Yes please.

Will you overclock?

Hell no.

Anything else we should know?

Sure! Looking to put together a basic rig for email and internet surfing. My buddy has never been online, has access to internet through current cable TV provider. Would also appreciate a recommend on best/current anti viral protection. Thanks to the board, thanks to the mods, thanks to the members.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i3-10100 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor ($105.44 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock B460M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1200 Motherboard ($91.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: Team T-FORCE VULCAN Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 CL16 Memory ($54.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Crucial P2 500 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($50.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Deepcool MATREXX 50 ATX Mid Tower Case ($44.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair CX (2017) 450 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ Corsair)
Monitor: Acer SB220Q bi 21.5" 1920x1080 75 Hz Monitor ($93.99 @ Amazon)
Keyboard: Cooler Master Devastator 3 Wired Gaming Keyboard With Optical Mouse ($34.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $527.37

With there seemingly being no stock of Ryzen at all, Intel is starting to make some sense lol. An i3 will do the job just fine. You could even get away with a cheaper motherboard with this if you need it under $500.

Right, thanks.

Sure, less expensive motherboard. Would use the diff for more storage, maybe a slightly larger SSD even.

Thanks again. Think I'll start w/ this simple rig for my buddy before leaping in w/ the gaming hot rod.

learning the internet can be hard for someone whos new to it, throw in a custom rig and learning a computer as well as gaming all at once and that can be a sure way to overload someone and have it not end well.

aka good idea ;)
