Hi all,

I hope you are all well and keeping positive in these times.

I have come here for some assistance please:

My father in law had a complete unit previously an Acer Aspire (i know poor guy...)

The motherboard has gone but I managed to remove the HDD for him.

He is thinking of another "all in one" unit but I have convinced him to be open-minded about a tower and monitor combination.

He only uses it for work, no gaming, or photo editing so huge performance not required. I would like to find him something worth his budget and future proof to a degree.

He does, however, use it for his camera too so possible SD Card Slot

Wants SSD

Has his old 1TB HDD on an external unit now. (should still have Windows 10 on?)

Budget is £450 Tower £100 - £150 Monitor

This is what I have put on to PartPicker so please feel free to add or amend.

Thanks all in advance

Regards

Sam

Here is one: uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/WYpj9G
It comes with an amazon link to a external SD card reader. The CPU comes with an APU and has great processing power and the computer has more RAM he'll ever need. It also comes with 500 GB of M.2 SSD space which will be amazing for his needs. It also comes with a 1TB HDD so he can store photos or whatever he may need as well for peace of mind.

You didn't say if you needed peripherals, I'm assuming you already have the essentials.

Thanks for your input.

I also looked at Ryzen 3 as it seems incredible for the money! Although I do not have much experience with them. After some research it seems that the I3 8100 is better but slightly more money.

This comment does concern me?

Warning! Some AMD A320 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Picasso CPUs. Upgrading the BIOS may require a different CPU that is supported by older BIOS revisions.

I am not sure I am capable enough to rectify this.

Ancillaries are not needed however he has now told me that he does not want a "big" tower. Wants something small and tidy he can put away.

Based on this I changed to an ITX motherboard

mATX ~470 can be lowered to 440/50 with a single 8gb stick of RAM.

ITX ~455 less RAM less storage.

The 3200g is a much better value than the 8100. For a performance difference that he will not be able to notice unless he is doing cache intensive work. The warning can be dismissed since most b450 boards come with the patch applied. You can easily reach out to AMD and they will ship you an upgrade chip.

Aftermarket cooler doesn't make much sense imho seeing as unless this is going to be in a tight enclosed space prone to heating up the stock cooler will be more than enough. If you want to spend the extra for another HDD or you can just reuse the old one if you wipe it/driver wipe it. Alternately you could swap out the m.2 for a normal 2.5" ssd with higher capacity.

Thanks 16 this makes good sense.

It seems to me like we should do the Ryzen route to save bang for the buck.

In regards to the mini ITX mobo with only 1x8GB as it has 2 slots can we not just put another in?

Also stock cooler.... cover your eyes but he is a clean freak and wants to put it in the cupboard or a drawer... I have advised of the overheating issue.

Hence why before he had an all in one solution but I do like the Thermaltake case as it looks like a speaker.

Something like this?

Looking to get this ordered ASAP as he works from home so he is currently trying to do it all on an Ipad.

Is there anything you can see on my last list which causes concern?

Thanks again

Looks good but why not use this PSU uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/XxvZx...b3-0450-v1
that I put in my original build, it's cheaper, fully modular and 50 extra watts. It's not gold certified but bronze is definitely all you need for the purpose of the build.
