So I am no guru when it comes to this stuff but have a general idea. I have an xbox one s with the 1TB HDD and I now have a dead HDMI output and will be getting a "new" used xbox one s and was wondering if instead of trying to remember my login info and everything if I could just go in and open both xboxs and literally unplug and move my old hard drive into the new used Xbox. Please no super technical terms as I said I'm no specialist in this. Thank you in advance. Sorry if this isn't the correct place for this, seemed that this would be the best place for what I need.

You could do that. Or you could just throw the stuff you want like profile, gamesaves, etc on an external storage and put it on your xbox like that.

Downside to this is you can't move a profile. You can move saves ETC. His best option would be to just yoink the HDD and move it but he would still have to sign in ETC. Would be better off transferring games and downloading the profile.
