usually i just put the chicken in the sink and let it thaw out most of the day.

the problem with thawing chicken in the microwave is if you don't thaw it properly, bacteria that may have been present on the surface of the meat before it was frozen can begin to multiply which gives you a greater risk of getting food poisoning.

is the chicken a full chicken or small chicken breasts in a package??

Put iti n the sink in a warm bowl of water, let it sit throughout the day to defrost thoroughly

Absolutely do not use a microwave to defrost chicken. Unless you want the shits.

Thawing it is the only safe option. Put it in some tap water for a few hours.

This is so true and gross. I cook all the time and the best way (it will take awhile) is to just let it sit in cold water all day. This is to prevent hot water from prematurely cooking the chicken to ensure little to no bacteria growth.

It's actually supposed to be cold water. Technically even room temp water and lead to the chicken having the possibility of getting infected with bacteria, due to it entering the "temperature danger zone". Guess that damn Health Inspector course was good for something.
