Not quite what I'm looking for but yeah I get that. More what we're looking at is buying a plot of land and then going to menards and picking a house... then we get someone to build it but I don't think it's that easy.. some of these houses would cost 100K the plot of land is like 15-20k so we're looking at 120k for the house... then a crew would come in and build it and plumb it and do all the electric stuff.. the kits from menards come with all the electrical and plumbing stuff. I think what we have to do is just find a company that builds homes and go from there.

Building your own property can have it's pros and cons just make sure you properly educate yourself before you dive in the deep end.

My girlfriends parents are actually very close to finishing there build. There build from the ground up so everything is new.

It takes a lot of time and money. You should be prepared to do some things on your own because it is very expensive to hire people to do everything for you. (Stuff like re doing your grass and putting doors in and small stuff like that).

They have been building for almost 2 years now so it's been a very long project but it should be done in October. Finally.

Yeah see I thought about that too... some people have main things done like the framing and siding and then finish the inside. I'm capable of doing a lot. But I don't think we could afford rent and a mortgage so what was suggested is a company would do main floor and a bit more and we'd finish basement and such but yeah

Not sure where your from mate but a standard new build these days costs around my area 150K+ thats for 2/3 bedroom house.

Maybe look into a flatpack home my cousin done it to build his house but in the long run because they kept making changes ended up costing him more.

Pros of building new

If done correctly and know exactly what you want and can find someone to do it exactly what you want then that is great

Cons
Shit happens
Things never get done exactly the way you entended on. Every time you go there to look at what the builders have done you always rethink your original game plan. Wanting thing bigger or changing things as you go or you come to find out that you should of done it this way or do something differently

What turns out to be a 90 day build now turns in to a 3yr project and always come to find out things are even going to cost more then you planned

If your on a budget build. Then this isn't. A very good idea
If it's your first house it's never a good idea to build your first home.

Also if you build your dream home and things never work out between you and your wife. You can guarantee she's going to get it in the end or sell it once your divorced

So game plan. Is to buy a cheaper house learn some things about each other on your wants and needs. After about 5 years you both will know what you want in your dream home and then build your home

Location is always the hard part also. Where do you want to live or do you want to live on a lake or have property if your going to have kids which schools do you want them in etc

Hope this helps you.

I learned a lot after buying my first home and looking to build my own home myself Problem I have is where and I don't think I will ever have a garage big enough for all the things I have and want in life lol. Tools , Toys, boats, cars, jet skis , motorcycles, then you have things you need like landscaping lawn equipment etc. the things you wife wants for her and kids and having room for family as they get older

Best wishes to you
