Actually, I would disagree with Steam going downhill. On April 30th, it was reported Steam has 1 billion accounts created with 90 million active users within that month. It seems they've gone up because I believe back in November or December of 2018, they had 47 million active users that month.

Again PC is great for like Everything and the whole Steam part and games. But I still like to sit back with the Xbox controller and play games and netflix and stuff on Xbox.

I believe the Xbox One controller works better than the 360, just because it seemed hassle free, if you have Windows 8.1 or 10. I bought the Xbox One Elite controller and plugged it into my PC and it was ready to go from the start; however, when I used an official wired Xbox 360 controller, I had to go digging around to install a driver to get it to work. Xbox One connected no problem, while the 360 I had to do extra work to get it working.

Xbox 360 controllers will require a wireless adapter if they're wireless, a wired controller should plug in directly via USB and work with the drivers provided on the Xbox website.

An Xbox One controller can work plugged into the USB port also straight out the box, or connected wireless via bluetooth if the controller is from the One S console or later provided you're using the drivers from the Xbox website also.

You can use a bluetooth dongle on your PC to connect it if your computer doesn't have bluetooth compatibility.
