Hello all,

I have recently built a new computer with the following specs:

MSI B450M GAMING PLUS
AMD Ryzen 5 2600
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x 8GB) 2666MHz DDR4- running at 2400mhz through A-XMP
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING 6GB Graphics Card
TP-LINK Archer T6E AC1300 Wireless Dual Band PCI Express Adapter
500W be quiet! Pure Power 10 PSU
240GB Kingston A400, 2.5" SSD
1TB Seagate Guardian BarraCuda HDD

A short time after installing Windows 10 on the SSD, I have had a problem with booting into Windows where I see a black screen with spinning white dots. The cursor is also visible. The computer will hang here for a very long time, before finally getting to the desktop. This doesn't happen every single time, but it is a frequent problem. When it does boot properly, it only takes a few seconds as you would expect with Windows installed on an SSD.

I have tried common fixes including:
Removing all USB devices and rebooting.
Restoring windows to an earlier point.
Resetting Windows.
A complete wipe of the SSD and reinstall of windows from a bootable USB.

None of these fixes work. Resetting/restoring/reinstalling Windows seems to work temporarily but after a few days, I see the same issue again.

When booted into Windows 10, I also can't type in Cortana and a message is frequently displayed saying that Windows firewall is disabled, however I can't seem to turn it back on in the options.

I'd be very grateful if anyone has any suggestions as to what could be causing the issue.

Thank you in advance.

How are you installing Windows? USB? Could it be an issue with your Windows .ISO maybe not installing properly? Maybe try another ISO, or USB.

Could maybe try installing the OS on a partition on your HDD for a little while to see if you can replicate the issue on the HDD. If not, the SSD could potentially be the issue.

You can download CrystalDiskInfo to check your drive's health, and CrystalDiskMark to check speed's are all correct.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.

For the benefit of anyone else who may be experiencing a similar problem, I will post my progress here.

I created a new bootable USB drive for Windows 10 and used this to install on a new HDD (salvaged from old Macbook). I have been using this for around 2 weeks now without a problem. As the drive health was assessed to be normal by a local computer shop, I believe the problem may have been to do with the bootable USB drive.

I will continue to use the PC as it is for a while longer before wiping the SSD and installing Windows 10 on it using the new USB drive in order to test this. I will post the results here.
