Firstly, I do not own a MK7 GTI, I've just owned Volkswagens most of my car buying life.

Make sure its a manual, and you'll have a much easier life.

I have no idea if VW still runs DSG transmissions in the MK7, I'm assuming they do, the thing usually shits out with high mileage, and you have got to get the thing serviced every 40K miles, and it is expensive as shit from what I've heard, although I'm sure you can do it yourself. I passed on both an automatic MK6 GTI, and GLI simply based on them having that DSG transmission. I'm more of a manual guy anyway.

The MK7 GTI seems to be relatively clean. The MK7 Jetta has seemed to get the shit end of the stick this go around. Oil leaks like hell.

If you want to tune it get DSG they can take way more power, you've got to upgrade the manual clutch if you even go stage 1.

overall the EA888 is an extremely reliable motor and can be pushed upwards of 500bhp without being rebuilt.

one issue with the GTI's if you add too much power is wheel hop but at stock levels it's not an issue.

I'm just getting a little daily while I build my b5, so not looking for massive power, if I was gonna build it I would lean towards a R

Should be fine then, Good cars overall excellent daily's as they're refined.

What's your plans with the B5?
